Ardmore: the Great Zambezi Exhibition
Walk through any of our hotels and you’re bound to spy pieces by Ardmore. The Collection by Liz McGrath has long been a fan of these unique South African hand-painted and hand-sculpted ceramic artworks.
Ardmore celebrates the Zambezi’s fabulous fauna and flora in the Great Zambezi exhibition. Think: flocks of brightly coloured birds and an abundance of wildlife, such as hippos, elephants, black rhinos, wild dogs, cheetah and lions. All of which can be found around the Zambezi River.
This diversity of fauna and flora has inspired the first collaboration between KwaZulu-Natal-based Ardmore Ceramic Art and the Parisian fashion house, Hermès.
The story goes: at the beginning of 2016, Ardmore and Hermès launched two patterned silk scarves, which were designed by artists at the South African arts collective (under the guidance of Ardmore founder Fée Halsted ’s eldest daughter, Catherine Berning) in collaboration with Hermès.
To accompany and celebrate the launch of the scarves, Ardmore created a range of stunning ceramics, inspired by fauna and flora of the Zambezi River basin, which you can see on display at The Cellars-Hohenort this February.
Tip: Make a day out of it and book lunch at The Conservatory.
